Greg Cumpstone

Greg Cumpstone, the starting goalkeeper and captain for the 2008 Southeast Soccer Club U-18 boys team as well as the 2006 & 2007 HK High School boys soccer team is now the starting keeper for the Hofstra University men’s soccer team.

During his freshman year, he was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week.  After completing his sophomore year this fall, Greg has an overall record of 13-11-5 and 11-5-4 in conference.  His record of 11 career shutouts ties him for third in the Hofstra Pride Men’s Soccer record books.

“The Southeast Soccer program truly helped with my development both as a player and person,” Greg states.  “For that I am sincerely grateful to the club, management, coaches and my fellow players for helping mold me into the player I am and helping me achieve many of my goals”.

Greg began his soccer career playing recreational and travel soccer in the Haddam-Killingworth Soccer Club. From “HK” he tried out for a position with the Southeast Soccer Club U-13 Boys team and “played up” for one year until he was a true U-13 (back in the days when premier started at U-13). Greg then tried out for the U-13’s and ultimately became the team’s starting keeper.  He also played on the Connecticut ODP team as a U14 and U15 player.

During his first six years with Southeast his coach was Neil Castle. In his final year at U-18 the coach was Steve Isleib. Greg knew Coach Isleib well since he played for Steve while a travel player at HK and again while playing at Haddam-Killingworth High School. Greg helped lead HK to their first two conference championships in school history as a junior and senior and to the state quarterfinals as a senior. His Junior/Senior record was 33-8-1 including 22 shutouts. Greg earned all-state honors as a senior, all-conference honors as a junior and senior and CT Soccer Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete Award.  Greg has been named to the Hofstra Deans list and serves as the Men’s Soccer representative to SAAC- Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
